Kianda Foundation has been running programs dedicated to the professional formation, development and education of women for the past 48 years in various regions in the country.
The women of Kilifi live in abject poverty and have very low literacy rates. The Kianda Foundation saw the need to empower these women with knowledge and skills to help the situation but lacked enough funds to run the initiative.
In support of the Kianda Foundation, the Safaricom Foundation contributed Kshs. 2 million for the Tewa Training Centre Outreach Project to equip women with skills to combat poverty in the region.
In the long run, the project is at the frontier of raising literacy levels in the Kilifi County which reduces the level of poverty and ultimately establishes sustainable development for the education and training of girls and women.
