Education Equipment Upgrade at Emining Primary School In Baringo County

The Challenge

The structure of special education in many schools, especially those that also cater for able bodied children leads to an increased isolation of learners with special needs. At Emining Day and Boarding Primary School, the assistive devices available in the resource room were inadequate compared to the number of learners. Out of the available 15 braille machines, only five were in good working condition. This in turn affected the quality of learning for the children with visual impairment.

The Intervention

As part of our commitment to contribute towards provision of quality education that is accessible and relevant to the lives of all children including those with special needs, Safaricom Foundation invested close to Kshs.1.5million to upgrade equipment at the school. The equipment included a computer, braille papers, internet security among others.

The Impact

This project will benefit 52 learners with visual impairment at Emining Day and Boarding Primary School. It will ensure the learners do not miss out on educational opportunities due to lack of proper infrastructure.
