Disaster Relief Response to Tana River Clash Victims in Tana River County
According to the Kenya Red Cross Society, more than 30,000 people were affected by the clashes with 12,000 of these displaced in the violence that left 118 people dead. Majority of those displaced have now settled in temporary camps in Dide, Waride, Witu and Mpeketoni while others have moved to Mamburi, Marerani and Lamu districts. Others have camped in swampy forests along the shores of the Tana River in Kau, Kilelangwani, Tizama lako and Ozi.
The Safaricom Foundation has responded to an urgent appeal by the Kenya Red Cross for donations for Tana River Clash victims. The Foundation has handed in a cheque of Sh10 million that will help the survivors of the clashes rebuild shelter.
KRCS has been offering emergency health needs, shelter, water and sanitation response in Tana Delta since the conflicts erupted.
