About the project

The Challenge

The centre did not have adequate space for waiting when mothers came for their children’s vaccination. The centre had been putting benches on the parking lot to give room for social distancing and to reduce crowding inside the facility however this was occasionally affected by weather changes. Additionally, the baby changing stations were few.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation’s Pamoja Scheme handed over a renovated and equipped pediatric unit at a cost KES 1 Million.  A new waiting bay was constructed, painting done on the facility walls, a hand washing station was installed, the floors tiled, 3 tables and mattresses were also donated for the changing station as well as a weighing machine for the vaccination room.

The Impact

The renovations have enabled the medical staff to improve their service provision. The over 100 patients who visit weekly for vaccination are being ushered in to a well-equipped waiting bay where they are maintaining social distance as they wait for their turn.
