About the project

The Challenge

The dispensary did not have maternity beds and oxygen equipment. This forced women to seek services either in Moyale or Marsabit referral hospitals which are 110 km and 116 km respectively. The lack of facilities and long distances covered by the women caused maternal and infant deaths.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation, through the Pamoja Scheme, donated 6 maternity beds, mattresses, bed sheets, a delivery coach, an oxygen cylinder and regulator, towels and baby blankets worth KES 700, 000. The floor at the maternity wing was revamped with new tiles.

The Impact

Women are getting maternity services within the community. The referrals to faraway hospitals have been addressed. The infant and maternal deaths have also been stopped.
