About the project

The Challenge

The rate of school drop outs was a concern as many girls have been forced out of class during their menstrual cycle. Some girls even engaged in transactional sex in order to secure sanitary towels which consequently resulted in unplanned pregnancies.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation’s Ndoto Zetu initiative supported the school with sanitary towels at a cost of KES 100,000.

The Impact

The sanitary towels have encouraged girls to report to school as they can now menstruate in dignity. The girls are also attending training and workshops on menstrual hygiene education.
