About the project
Girls from communities in Tharaka Nithi County missed school during their periods because they could not afford sanitary towels. Also, teenage pregnancies and ill-health were challenges linked to inability to access sanitary towels.
Safaricom Foundation’s Ndoto Zetu initiative distributed sanitary towels worth KES 1.2 million to over 1,000 girls in 15 schools. They were distributed at Makutano and Ndunguri Primary Schools and at Okoa Msichana Foundation.
The girls are going to school every day. The availability of sanitary towels has ensured that they do not miss school during their periods. They have renewed interest in their studies and doing well academically.
