About the project

The Challenge

Samburu Handicap Education and Rehabilitation programme SHERP, was founded by Grace Seneiya. SHERP is a home that was founded on the principle that children born with disabilities deserve a chance to live their lives without having to bear such conditions. It addresses the need for designed for educating and rehabilitating impaired and physically challenged children in the Samburu District of Northern Kenya. The home relies on well-wishers for its daily needs. It is under this ground that the home resolved to seek assistance in order to get an income generating activity for sustainability.

The Intervention

The organization had to set aside 3 acres of land for construction of residential cottages that could be leased to generate income for the home but they did not have funds for the construction. Safaricom Foundation funded the Construction of the cottages at a cost of Kshs. 2,832,785

The Impact

The more than 100 children have another reason to smile if a well-wisher does not pass as income generated from these cottages will be used in the home to meet their needs.
