About the project
Recreational facilities help young people channel their natural energy and exuberant enthusiasm into positive activities. Once an important focal point for young people in the area, the Shauri Moyo YMCA hall and gymnasium were in a state of disrepair and its use had declined as a result.
The facility was given a complete facelift during the KShs 379,500 project, which included repairing the floor, painting the walls and fixing the lighting system.
40 new members have registered and 95 lapsed members have renewed their memberships. The gymnasium now boasts a total of 178 members who are involved in various activities, including basketball, skating, dancing and sports for the disabled. A partner organisation has also started using the facility for HIV/AIDS advocacy programmes through sports.
