About the project

The Challenge

The classrooms had dusty floors while the windows lacked panes which exposed students to the cold weather resulting to flus. The enrolment of learners was also reducing due to the harsh learning environment in the school. In addition, performance was not as good as the pupils’ retention was low.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation supported the school with the renovation of classrooms at a cost of KES 800,000. Safaricom funded the plastering of walls, fixed windowpanes, painted classrooms, put up gutters for water harvesting, and installed electricity in all the eight classes in the school.

The Impact

With these renovations in place, the cases of cold and flu in the school will reduce. Electricity installation in classrooms, will give learners extra time for their individual studies hence improved retention of concepts that will be evident through improved performance of the school.
