About the project

The Challenge

Mwaluvuno Primary School is a located in Ndavaya, Kwale County. It is a mixed school. This institution however lacked proper amenities to run smoothly. The classrooms were in a bad state and lacked enough furniture. This made learning difficult. The school also lacked clean and adequate source of water while the poor sanitation posed a health risk to the pupils.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation through the Know and Grow Project funded the construction of classrooms, sanitation facilities, water harvesting plant and the purchase of classroom furniture.
This was done under the Know and grow initiative alongside the Tinga Tinga Tales Foundation and Coca Cola Company where Ksh 1.5 million was contributed.

The Impact

The pupils at Mwavuluno Primary School can now learn efficiently. It is now easier for teachers to handle a manageable number of students in the classes, enabling them to give enough attention to the students.
Sanitation facilities also ensure that the students do not have to use dilapidated facilities. The water project has seen to it that the school has a clean supply of water.
This project has helped meet the fourth and sixth sustainable development goals that call for quality education and access to clean water and sanitation. The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 goals that aim to end poverty in the world by 2030.
