About the project

The Challenge

On 19th July 2018, the foundation launched the maternal newborn and child health programme in Lamu County. The programme aims at increasing access to and uptake of quality maternal and child health services in Lamu County.

Maternal Mortality in Kenya is still high and is a worrying trend. Kenya is among the countries with highest burden of maternal deaths (362 per 100,000) in the world. There exists  huge disparities between the various Counties with 15 out of 47 counties accounting for 98.7%. Out of the 15 Counties, six Counties contribute to more than 50% of the maternal mortality, Lamu County being one of them.

The Intervention

The programme is seeking to reduce the maternal mortality rate by improving access to maternal and child health.
