About the project

The Challenge

Makimei Children’s Home is situated in Kanyariri, Kikuyu established in 2006 by Mrs. Margaret Wambui. It currently houses 40 children ranging from baby class to university.
The home provides them with shelter, food, education and equips them with necessary skills which empower them to be self-dependent in future. With the number of children ever increasing, the facilities of this institution are stretched to the limit. The children need food, monthly rent for the home and other necessities. This is only possible through a permanent and a reliable financial source as relying on well-wishers is unreliable.

The Intervention

Safaricoms’ financial services division got together to support them through pamoja initiative, a Safaricom staff funding scheme, with an income generating project worth Ksh 395,580 in order to create a reliable financial source

The Impact

The home now has an income generating activity which is not only a means of income but source of food for them. This will largely reduce dependence on unpredictable well-wishers.
