An assessment done in 2018 revealed that most learners in Bungoma, Turkana and Tana River continued to fall behind their grade level expectations. The assessment showed that of all grades 3-8 learners assessed, only 3 out of 5 could read a grade 2 level text in Kiswahili. Half of the children in grade 5 could not read a similar level text in English.
Safaricom Foundation in partnership with ZiziAfrique Foundation held the Literacy and Numeracy Annual Education Forum on 11th March 2020 at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
The Forum brought together key stakeholders from the Government, Ministry of Education, Civil Society, Community-level actors, private sector and individuals with an objective to:
1.Learn, unlearn and share experiences with the Accelerated Learning Program; What worked? What is the evidence? How did it work? What do we learn?
2.Connect with entities and individuals within the Literacy and Numeracy space.
