About the project
Kiriani Mission Hospital is owned and managed by Catholic Diocese of Murang’a while Assisi sisters of Mary Immaculate are responsible for the administration of the hospital. The Nearest Hospitals are Murang’a District Hospital which is 32km way and Nyeri Provincial General Hospital which is 32km away from Kiriani Mission Hospital. The Hospital covers three administrative divisions with a population of approximately 250,000.
The Hospital was initially started as a dispensary but has grown to a 60 bed capacity with various wards and departments.
The Hospital approached Safaricom Foundation to assist in the renovation of the outpatient wing which was in a desperate situation. The Foundation funded the extension of the outpatient department at kshs 1,185,468 and a matching grant of Kshs 861,600 for the purchase of laundry Machines. Safaricom Foundation funding, along with other funds received went towards expanding the reception areas thereby improving patient flow at registration and payment, expanding the laboratory to create a specimen delivery room, a specimen collection room, construction of two consulting rooms, construction of a pharmacy and improvements to the ablution facilities.
Currently serving a total of 84,000 community members in Kiria-ini and its environs residents are now able to reach the hospital in time rather than going to Nyeri or Murang’a hospitals. The washing machine and drier purchased are particularly very convenient during the cold and rainy season. The hospital no longer irons or light fire to dry the linens.
