About the project

The Challenge

The prison had been experiencing water rationing and shortages for the longest time. The occasional water blockages from the suppliers had also inconvenienced the prison leading to even weeks without water supply. The institution’s only one water tank could not address the women’s needs when it came to observing high level of hygiene and sanitation.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation’s regional kitty installed one water tank at a cost of KES 249,000.

The Impact

There is enough water that will help maintain the health and sanitation of the women inmates. The institution has a chance to harvest and store water that will also enable them adhere to the COVID-19 prevention protocols that is, regularly washing hands.
