About the project

The Challenge

The group relied on water distribution for income generation but had difficulties in accessing water to meet clients’ demand as there was only one tap supplying water in the area. They also had few jerricans for carrying water. They used a bicycle for transportation therefore limiting their operations and laboring with multiple trips

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation through the Ndoto Zetu initiative donated 10 hand driven carts and 400 20L jerry cans at a cost of KES 280,000.

The Impact

With the help of the county government, more water outlets were installed enabling the members to refill all the 400 jerricans at once as well as use the handcarts to supply water in bulk. This has increased the group’s revenue enabling them to attend to their basic needs. The group is expanding their business to supplying building materials to construction sites, creating more employment opportunities for the youth.
