About the project
The school being located in a semi-arid area. Life was difficult as parents heavily relied upon bursaries and farming to take their children to school. The school lacked a science lab which affected the students negatively as they could not have practical lessons which are mandatory and are part of the KCSE examination.
The students had to walk for more than 10km to access science labs in neighboring schools to conduct lab experiments. This affected their academic performances as students scored low marks in the science subjects.
Safaricom Foundation contributed Ksh 3,500,000 towards equipping the school with an equipped laboratory. This ties in with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) a set of 17 goals aimed at ending poverty around the world. The fourth goal focuses on providing quality education to all.
The new science lab will boost the morale of students as they now have the facilities required to successfully conduct their science practical lessons.
This will boost learning and improve their academic results.
