About the project
The available dormitory was too small to allow admission of more students into the school. On the other hand, there was a lot of congestion in the facility which resulted to poor ventilation, hygiene and sanitation issues. Girls who lacked space in the facility had to sleep in classes and makeshift mosques. This did not guarantee safety of the students neither did it assure a restful night.
Safaricom Foundation handed over a constructed dormitory, 48 beds, 48 mattresses and 48 sets of bedding at a cost of KES 4.5 Million.
The new facility has enabled the school double their enrollment giving opportunities for more girls in Mandera county to access education. The dorm is also providing a conducive environment for resting after a full day of learning. It is expected that the academic performance of the school will improve as learners are now energetic for the day.
