About the project
Access to health facilities still remains a challenge in Kiharu. Many people shy away from seeking medical services due to the 10 kilometer distance to the nearest health facility. The high cost of health care services makes it difficult for many to seek specialized health care services.
Safaricom Foundation contributed Sh 2.4 Million towards the medical camp which was done in collaboration with the Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Centre (DMI). This camp is the first in the sixth phase where a total of 12 medical camps and 3 youth camps will be held countrywide
Safaricom and DMI reached over 2000 patients who attended the medical camp held in Kiharu, Muranga County. The patients were screened for various ailments including diabetes and prostate cancer. Many were treated for their ailments while others with more serious cases got referrals to visit a health center for further follow up.
