About the project

The Challenge

The toilets were blocking because of poor drainage which resulted in a foul smell around the school environment. There were no handwashing points at the school which risked the health of pupils. The toilets were in a dilapidated state.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation constructed 3 blocks of toilets with 16, 12 and 13 toilets in each as well as 3 more toilets for female teachers and 2 more for male teachers. They set up handwashing points with running water. This was done for KES 1.5 million.

The Impact

The risk of waterborne diseases among pupils is low. The water is playing an important role in the hygiene of pupils and teachers.  The school environment is pleasant.
