About the project

The Challenge

The school’s latrine had two toilets one for girls and one for boys which were not enough for the whole student population. In addition, the distance from the school to the source of water was over 50 kilometers which ended up negotiating the sanitation of the school. The overcrowding in the latrines posed a breeding ground for water-borne diseases.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation funded the construction of the pit latrine at a cost of KES 500 000.

The Impact

The pit latrine has six compartments which will be used by the girls and boys. Hygiene and sanitation of the school is expected to enhance hence encouraging learners to stay in school.
