About the project
The school did not have a reliable source of water. The school of 220 boys, struggled with meeting their water needs. They drew water from a nearby stream which was contaminated. The pupils used class hours to go fetch water from the stream for cooking, cleaning and washing. The school’s hygienic conditions were worrying as water borne disease had begun spreading in the school affecting class attendance.
Safaricom Foundation donated five 10,000 litre tanks for KES 522,000. The tanks have six water points for ease of access and use.
The school’s hygiene will improve drastically lowering cases of waterborne diseases. By having a trusted and reliable water source in the school compound, the students will use all their time to study without unnecessary distractions.
