About the project

The Challenge

St. Joseph children’s home was started in 2007 by the catholic mission from Germany, the poor hand maids of Jesus Christ Sisters’ run the institution. The home is located 20km from Chuka town along Mati-Meru Road. The school has 33 boys residing and ten others supported in their various learning institutions.

The home has a single door pit latrine which cannot sufficiently serve the pupils, hence there is an urgent need to construct a sanitation facility.

The Intervention

To cater for all the children’s hygienic needs, Safaricom foundation funded the construction of sanitation facility at a cost of Ksh. 422,000. This allowed the children access to clean water and sanitation.

The Impact

The new sanitation facility constructed by Safaricom Foundation is essential to the basic needs of the children at the home. It will allow them access to clean water and sanitation without the risk of overcrowding.

The new sanitation facility are also a major boost to cleanliness and sanitation in the home.
