About the project
Vota Secondary School is a school of 192 students. They did not have a functioning science laboratory and the number of toilets was not enough for both students and teachers.
The school had occasionally used laboratories of neighbouring schools. This affected their academic performance. The lack of enough toilets posed the risk of waterborne diseases.
Safaricom Foundation renovated a classroom block into an equipped and functioning science lab and constructed 3 ablution blocks with 6 toilets each for boys and girls and an ablution block for teachers with a toilet each for ladies and gents. They were constructed for KES 4.4 million.
The school are using the science lab for their studies including the just concluded KCSE exams. The lab will improve their academic studies in the sciences.
The ablution blocks have improved sanitation in the school promoting better health.
