About the project
The school’s library lacked important furniture like shelves, tables and chairs. The ventilation was poor with fixed windows which did not open and shut to let in fresh air. The lighting was poor making the pupils strain while reading.
The school of 1200 pupils needed an active library to improve the reading culture in the school and uplift the academic performances of the school.
Safaricom Foundation renovated the library at KES 850, 000. The library was furnished with shelves, chairs, and tables.
New windows were fitted replacing the old ones while extra bulbs were fixed for more lighting. Books were also supplied in addition to the renovation.
The pupils will have a conducive environment for reading. The library is able to accommodate 50 pupils which will increase access to the books.
The platform to read has been provided by the library which will result in improvement of their academic performances and communication skills.
