About the project
Kokare Secondary School with 320 students had no library. Students had nowhere to read on their own and store books. Books were heaped in the deputy head teacher’s office. The books were not safe either with no way to track and account for them, when they got lost.
Safaricom Foundation renovated an old classroom and equipped it as the school’s library for KES 700,000. Books worth KES 270, 000 were donated. The library was furnished with shelves, chairs and tables as well as a computer and printer.
The students are improving academically by using the library to read more. 40 students can use the library at the same time increasing access to the reading material.
