About the project

The Challenge

The school did not have a fence to keep strangers out of the school. The girls were insecure because the institution is next to a highway, where there was frequent human and vehicular traffic.

This exposed the girls to would-be sex pests and other harmful influences from outside the school. There was also a lot of anxiety with the school being so accessible to anyone who intended to do harm. The lack of a perimeter fence undermined the education and safety standards in the school.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation invested KES 1 million to construct a high fence to secure the girls in the school.

The Impact

The girls are no longer at risk of being lured into harmful practices by strangers and people from outside. The girls can study in a conducive learning environment which is safe. This will enhance their performance in class as they can learn and live without anxiety.
