About the project

The Challenge

The dispensary was lacking in some important facilities. The health facility in Biashara Ward was being relied upon by pregnant women yet it had limited bed space.

Pregnant women could not be monitored before and after delivery and the health of their newborns could not be checked too. The blood sugar levels of expectant women went unmonitored making their health status unknown.

The health of newborn babies and their mothers was at risk if the health centre continued operating without the necessary equipment.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation through the pamoja staff engagement initiative provided 4 ward beds, 2 digital blood pressure machines, a glucometer, 3 stethoscopes and a room heater at a cost of Ksh 570,000.

The Impact

The health status of expectant women will be monitored. Both their blood pressure and sugar levels will be analysed and known.  In case there is major action to be taken, their condition will be detected and acted upon accordingly.

The extra bed space will increase the number of women who can use the maternity wing of the dispensary.
