About the project
Mbooni District Hospital is a Government health centre located in Makueni County Mbooni constituency.
The hospitals maternity wing caters for many women and children in Mbooni constituency however, it lacked various equipment and needed upgrading so as to provide better maternal services.
Safaricom Foundation invested a total of Ksh.890, 000 towards purchase of various equipment and painting of the facility. The Foundation handed over a washing machine, a 10,000 liter capacity water tank, 12 beds, mattresses, 40 bed sheets, 12 blankets and one baby cot. The foundation also funded the painting of the maternity wing.
This was to help improve the situation there.
The storage tank has ensured that the maternity wing has ample water supply even in times of shortage and ensure proper hygiene and sanitation which is crucial in a maternity set-up.
There is now an increased patient capacity with the provision of 12 extra beds from the initial 24.
The hospital which initial attended to between 100 and 150 mothers per month can now cater to more pregnant women.
