About the project

The Challenge

Ngony’a Secondary School is a mixed secondary school in Tharaka Nithi County. The school did not have a library. The classroom they had begun using as their library was renovated to a dormitory, which meant, that read on their own, they sat under trees

Their books went misplaced frequently reducing their reading opportunities.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation constructed and equipped a library for KES 1 million. It was equipped with bookshelves, chairs and tables.

The Impact

The students are reading well in a spacious library and revising effectively for their studies. Every student in the school is getting an opportunity to use the library for their studies by borrowing books and reading them in the library.

The bookshelves have provided a safe place to store and maintain books.
