About the project

The Challenge

The mixed school of 233 students did not have an equipped library that students could use for further academic and recreational reading. To read privately, they used to sit under trees.

Since the library did not have the essential furniture, books often got lost or stolen. Also, the books that were there were not enough.

The lack of enough books and loss of reading materials minimized the students’ reading culture and had a hand in the school’s struggles academically.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation donated KES 496,000 to furnish the library with fixed reading tables, shelves, and a librarian’s desk and shelf.

Revision and set books were also given to the school to help stock their library with sufficient reading materials.

The Impact

It is expected that the school’s reading culture will improve hence will uplift the academic performances of the students. The library facilities will keep books safe and in good condition for the students to use.

They will move from reading under trees to a well-equipped library; this will give them the motivation and drive to study better.
