About the project

The Challenge

Simotwo Primary School shared the same facilities with the neighbouring Simotwo Secondary School for close to 20 years. The community struggled to improve the quality of learning for this school but their efforts were strained by lack of finances. One of the missing key facilities at the school was a library. There was need to put up one in order to cultivate a reading culture for the pupils.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation through the Pamoja Scheme funded the construction and the furnishing of a library at Ksh1.1 million. Pamoja Scheme is an initiative that encourages Safaricom employees to take part in a community project of their choice.

The Impact

This library will not only benefit the 350 pupils and their teachers but will also open its doors to any member of the community who would like to acquire more knowledge.
Education is one the key strategic directions that the Safaricom Foundation has supported since inception and will continue to support over the coming years. This project aims to fulfil the fourth Sustainable Development Goal which works towards ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
