About the project

The Challenge

Mpuri Secondary School has in the past received a lot of support from the local community and other institutions to improve infrastructural facilities and renovations. This school however lacks a dining hall.

They previously had a temporary structure that was not safe for use and could not accommodate the students.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation through the Pamoja Scheme invested Ksh. 900,000 towards the construction and furnishing of a dining hall. The staff champion and project leader, Joy Muthee, donated Ksh. 292,600. The Pamoja Scheme is an initiative that allows staff members to take part in community projects.

The Impact

All the school students – 100 of them including 54 boys and 46 girls now enjoy their meals in a much cleaner environment. This has in turn resulted in improved performance thereby ensuring regular attendance of school.
