About the project
The Ndaragwa Primary School (Special Education Unit) for pupils with disability was opened in 2006, to facilitate education and social integration of mentally and physically challenged pupils. The school lacked adequate infrastructure and capacity for pupils with special needs, and had to reject a large number of admission requests. Additionally, poorly constructed and insufficient beds resulted in extreme restraining of pupils with extensive special needs during the night.
Safaricom Foundation donated Ksh. 618,700 that went towards construction of special infrastructure to accommodate the pupils with special needs. The Foundation founded the construction of a classroom, toilet, administration block and the purchase of 40 beds.
With the completion of project, the school automatically changed into a registered special school for mentally challenged children. This has resulted in increased capacity to take in more students and has created a conducive learning environment.
