About the project

The Challenge

Meru School for the Mentally Challenged has been a home for autistic pupils and adults since 1982.

This school has grown from only 9 students in 1982 to a mixed boarding school hosting 125 pupils and 18 teachers currently.

There lacked proper boarding facilities and what was available could not accommodate the pupils comfortably.

The Intervention

This is not the first time Safaricom foundation has visited this school. In 2008, the foundation commissioned a hot water system and a school bus to this school.

For this project, the foundation invested Kshs3.9 million towards the construction of a 30 bed capacity dormitory.

The Impact

The dormitory will help ease congestion and see to it that the pupil’s boarding experience is enjoyable and comfortable.

The pupils can now have a good night’s rest leaving them refreshed and ready to learn.
