About the project
Homabay General Hospital in Homabay County is a major health facility that caters for patients from not only Homabay but also the greater south Nyanza region. Patients from Kisii to even as far as Migori all seek medical services from the facility.
The hospital needed a new dialysis machine because continuous usage wears down the dialysis machines, which have a limited lifespan of 30,000 hours or eight years of service. Hence, the machines have to be replaced constantly to ensure patients receive optimum treatment.
The Safaricom Foundation partnered with the Hospital in order to find a remedy to the situation and help the many patients who flock the facility daily in need of dialysis treatment. The foundation donated a Gambro AK 98 dialysis machine worth Ksh. 2.2 million to the hospital to cater to the rising cases Kidney related complications.
The dialysis machine will provide a lifeline to kidney patients in the region and help them restore their dignity and further improve their ability to take part in communal activities. The machine will also provide financial reprieve to patients who mostly come from low-income families.
