About the project
The cases of Type 2 diabetes in Garissa County were on the increase. Most of these cases went undetected because there was no facility where residents could visit to find out their diabetes status. Children and youth under 21 years were the most affected.
Safaricom Foundation organized a comprehensive medical camp in partnership with Pastoralists Girls Initiative (PGI). This came a few months after Safaricom Foundation had launched a Children with Diabetes programme in Garissa County.
Over 1, 000 residents who were screened for diabetes know about their condition and are following doctors’ instructions. Dozens have better eyesight after corrective eye surgery was carried out in the camps.
