About the project

The Challenge

There were 173 families affected by jiggers in Marama West Ward. COVID-19 pandemic affected livelihoods among community members limiting access to jigger eradication chemicals. Additionally, lack of awareness on hygiene as well as lack of shoes increased the number of jigger cases among adults and children.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation through the Ndoto Zetu initiative supported the community with jigger chemicals worth KES 200,000.

The Impact

The community has benefitted from jigger removal and cleaning of wounds. Homes and schools have been fumigated to eliminate the jiggers and to create a hygienic environment. Moreover, the beneficiaries have been spared from the pain and stigma inflicted by jigger infestation.
