About the project

The Challenge

The World Health Organisation estimates that 26% of bed occupancy in hospitals in Kenya consist of diabetic patients while 50 % of kidney patients are found to be suffering from diabetes.

An estimated 500, 000 Kenyans are living with diabetes with 60% unaware of their status. It is estimated that the number of children living with diabetes is increasing at a rate of 3.5 % annually.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation in partnership with Kenya Diabetes Management & Information Centre (DMI Centre) organized a diabetes camp where 80 people had medical checkups and given medical advice.

The Impact

The 40 children and 40 adults are managing their diabetes better with access to medical care and medical advice received.
