About the project

The Challenge

Over 2,000 pupils of Kwa Njenga Primary School lacked ample ablution facilities in their school. Children would hold on to their need to answer the call of nature only to go to school to utilize the few that were available that were already blocked. Due to the blockage of the school’s toilets, sewerage waste flooded the school compound and many pupils would fall ill.

Kwa Njenga Primary School is in Kwa Njenga Ward and serves 4 informal settlements which are Sinai, Kwa Reuben, Tassia and Quarry Slums.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation contributed Sh 2.7 million towards the construction of 22 modern pit latrines in the school.

The Impact

The over 2000 pupils now have access to clean toilet facilities that can be used comfortably. The school compound in now clean and rid of the sewerage waste. No of school children missing school over disease related reasons has gone down.
