About the project
Most women in the community were illiterate mothers while many girls had dropped out of school. They did not know how to use sanitary towels so during the menstrual cycle they would stay indoors and come out when the period was over. Additionally, even after education and sensitization in menstrual hygiene, the women could not access the commodity due to financial constraints.
Safaricom Foundation through the Ndoto Zetu initiative handed over 7 sacks of sanitary towels worth KES 100,000.
The sanitary towels have made the women feel dignified and be confident to go about their lives without fear of isolation. The supply has also restocked the stores and that more women will be impacted over an extensive period of time.
