About the project

The Challenge

The classrooms had earthen floors which exposed the pupils to dust allergies and flu. The walls had cracks with a high risk of collapsing when pupils were studying. Additionally, most of the classes had poor lighting hence discouraging early morning and evening studies. The learning environment was not conducive and this affected pupil’s concentration in class.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation through the Pamoja Scheme handed over two renovated classrooms at a cost of KES 400,000. Lighting was also fixed in five classrooms.

The Impact

The classes which are already in use have motivated them and consequently improving their last KCPE mean grade improved from 266 to 276 points. Moreover, the teachers are now reporting to school very early in the morning and leaving quite late because the lighting in the classrooms has encouraged extra hours for learning and lesson planning.
