About the project

The Challenge

Research by Menstrual Hygiene Day Organization shows that school girls miss at least 13 learning days in a term as a result of their periods. About 100 girls from two schools in Kibera were missing school during their periods because they could not afford sanitary towels. This disrupted their education.

The Intervention

Safaricom Foundation, through the Ndoto Zetu initiative, donated sanitary towels worth KES 100, 000 to over 120 girls from 2 schools.

The Impact

The girls are consistently learning even during their periods. The sanitary towels are contributing to keeping them in school without fear or shame of being isolated by other pupils.
