About the project
Action Foundation Kibera aspired to manufacture low-cost assistive devices from cartons and waste materials for persons with disability but lacked a workshop and equipment that will provide space for assembling of raw materials and manufacturing of the devices.
Safaricom Foundation, through the Pamoja Scheme, handed over a constructed workshop and equipment including a compressor machine at a cost of KES 1 million.
The Foundation is now supplying low cost devices to their partners who are distributing and selling the assistive aids at affordable prices. Employment has been created as manpower is sourced from the community members hence earning a living. Additionally, through the sale of these devices, the foundation is generating income.
