Trustees

The Foundation is governed by the following Trustees, all of whom are staff of Safaricom Limited,

Joseph Ogutu
Safaricom Foundation Chairman
 

Joseph joined the Foundation as a trustee in 2008 and was appointed Chairman of the Foundation in June 2012.

He is the Director, Resources at Safaricom Limited. 

His satisfaction is derived from the bond that the Foundation nurtures and shares with people and communities it partners with. According to Joseph, it is through these partnerships that the Foundation enhances the capacity of communities to be self-sufficient in various fields.

 

Les Baillie
Trustee 

He joined Safaricom Limited in 2000 as the Chief Finance Officer, directly contracted by Vodafone for secondment to the company. He took up the position of Chief Investor Relations Officer in 2008. Les served as Chairman of the Foundation since its inception in 2003 to May 2012.  

Les enjoys visiting projects and seeing the impact the Foundation and its partners have had among communities.

 

Nzioka Waita
Trustee
Director, Corporate Affairs

 
Nzioka has been a founding trustee of the Safaricom Foundation since its inception in 2003.

He is an advocate by profession and an active member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. He took up the position of Director, Corporate Affairs in 2011.   

Nzioka has a keen interest in community development and derives great joy in seeing the positive changes in the lives of those who benefit from the Foundation’s contribution.

 

Janice Mwendameru
Trustee
Customer Management Support Analyst
 

Janice joined the Foundation as a Trustee in 2008  

Janice has been a staff at Safaricom Ltd since 2003.  She works in the Customer Management Department.

She is proud of the fact that the Foundation is able to change people’s lives and give hope for a better tomorrow through its social and economical empowerment initiatives.

 

 

Josephine Kamanthe Ndambuki
Trustee
Transmission Support Engineer

Josephine joined the Foundation as a trustee in 2010.

She works as an engineer in the Technical and IT Division at Safaricom Limited.

Provision of sustainable solutions to our Kenyan communities through the Foundation provides great fulfilment for Josephine. She is honoured to be part of a team doing noble tasks such as transforming a child’s life by performing a surgical procedure on their cleft lip to restore a smile.

 

Tony Kisaka
Trustee
Senior Process Governance Officer in Quality & Service Assurance department, Technology division.

Tony joined Safaricom Ltd in 2007 in the Commercial Division, and is currently working in the Technology Division as a Senior HR Officer in charge of ISO & Process quality.

I joined the Foundation as a Trustee in September 2011. Having been brought up in a family where my parents were focused on bettering the lives of those in their sphere of influence, positively impacting lives in communities became a way of life and I derive satisfaction from giving hope to communities and future generations through the Foundation.

 

Zaheeda Suleman-Arain
Trustee
Senior Manager, Strategic Marketing – Events & Sponsorship

Zaheeda has been with Safaricom Ltd since 2004 and joined the Foundation as a trustee in September 2011.

One of my most intense moments with the Foundation has been at the Kwale Medical Camp last year, when I watched a mother cry while begging her 8 year old daughter to agree to get dental care. The daughter needed to have a tooth removed and she was so scared. That moment made me realize 2 things. One: the medical camp was reaching out to needy people and that indeed the Foundation and her partners make an impact. Two: we take so much for granted – as a mother of 3, it was hard to see a mother cry for something as basic as medical care.

Kahlil Gibran said “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give." Being a trustee is a privilege as it allows me to give back. No matter how small or big.
